Hi everyone!

When I was a brand new art director, fresh out of art school, it seemed to me that everybody around me was taking advertising awfully serious. Of course, a lot of money is involved when you work at a big agency and clients demand results. I found a cartoon, that I secretly kept in my desk drawer as a reminder when it got stressful. After all these years in this business, I still feel like this. This is not a profession that has critical and immediate effects on the well-being of your fellow humans. Please remember this while you work and stay relaxed, because creativity happens when you have fun.

About my career path: I have been in advertising and graphic design for almost 25 years. For three years I majored in Communication Design in Germany, and I hold a Bachelors in Fine Arts - Major Advertising from Art Center, College of Design in Pasadena. My first job was at Dailey, an adverting agency in L.A. where I was an art director working on ads and commercials. Later, I worked at a German agency as a graphic designer and art director, and then at Mattel Inc. as a senior packaging designer. For the last fifteen years I have been freelancing, mostly working with local businesses, organizations and start-ups, doing a lot of branding, re-branding, and advertising. You can see samples of my work on rubiendesign.com or Behance.

A couple of personal things about me: I  have a husband and two kids who are currently in college. I was born and raised in Germany, hence the accent, and I can do a dead on impression of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
